  1. Call to Order
    1. The meeting was called to order by Chair, Kamilah Martin Proctor at 10:00am.

 

  1. Commissioner Roll- Call to verify Section 6. Quorum - The attendance of one-third (1/3) of the voting members of the D.C.C.P.D. - Kamilah Martin-Proctor
    1. Confirmed six (6) commissioners Present

 

 

  1. Approval of December 2017 Commission Meeting Minutes (Formal Vote) - Kamilah Martin-Proctor

    1. Request to table the December minutes to have corrections and additions addressed by fellow commissioners, Tiffany McLaurin- Smallwood, and Dr. Denise Decker to be voted on at next commission meeting.

       

  2. Review tentative D.C.C.P.D. Calendar dates for 2018 events and who would be taking the lead

    1. October Mayor’s Expo – request to expand the job fair portion of the event –Lead: Commissioner Hope Fuller

    2. August Resume Workshop - Commissioner Hope Fuller

    3. Deaf Awareness Rally Partnership possibility - promoting – education, employment and communication - Lead: Commissioner Jarvis Grindstaff

    4. Suicide Awareness – coming out of the dark - Lead: Commissioner Terrance Hunter,

    5. April – Best Buddies - awareness event - Lead: Commissioner Gerard ‘Gerry” Counihan

    6. Community meeting on education (Ms. Storm) - Commissioner Tiffany McLaurin- Smallwood,

    7. Bullying awareness speaking out - Lead: Commissioner Gerard ‘Gerry” Conahan

       

  3. Review ideas for 2018 white papers and reports (under the strategic plan) and who would be taking the lead

    1. Bike Barrier guidance - Lead: Commissioner Jarvis Grindstaff

    2. Person Centered Language – Lead: Commissioner Julia Wolhandler

      1. ODR’s past documents sent to the commission

    3. Emergency Management and Preparedness guidance - Lead: Commissioner Dr. Denise Decker

      1. Pervious paper written was the Snowzilla RE: guidance during snow emergencies

    4. Sign language interpretation best practices within district government - Lead: Commissioner Jarvis Grindstaff, Julia Wolhandler, Kamilah Proctor

    5. Transpiration

    6. Health Care Survey

    7. Working with our ANC’s Partners - Lead: Commissioner Gerard ‘Gerry” Counihan, Commissar Terrance Hunter

    8. Best Outreach Practices:

      1. Flyers, Libraries, grocery stores, Eventbrite

    9. Usher Syndrome awareness- Commissioner Jarvis Grindstaff

       

  4. Review draft D.C.C.P.D. Handbook

    1. Comments received back were positive - is now being reviewed by ODR and will continue to go up the chain to be reviewed and hopefully implemented as a living document for the commission

       

  5. Review any Motions for discussion and consideration:

    1. For Discussion - meeting dates posted to the following, social network sites (Pending approval by O.D.R) as possible outreach avenues in an effort to further connect out to the community:

      1. The ODR Facebook Page

      1. Eventbrite

      2. Meeting flyers created and distributed to the community.

    2. Post meeting these suggestions were taken to ODR – and approved – we can now move forward with online posting with the proper review and creating flyers
