Welcome to the Office of Disability Rights, Division of Deaf, DeafBlind, & Hard of Hearing's Effective Communication Program
Greetings!
The Effective Communication Program provides public access to DC government resources and programs through Hearing and Deaf American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters, Tactile and Pro-Tactile ASL Providers, Tri-Lingual Providers, and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) Captioners.
We have updated our process for requesting services for Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Hard-of-Hearing, or Late Deafened constituents. The new process will require any DC agency or employee to register and/or log in to a QuickBase account to submit a new request or view updates to an already submitted request. We will only accept Accessibility requests from a dc.gov email (DC government employees only, including k12.dc.gov, the DC Council, and Advisory Neighborhood Commissions).
Our mission is to ensure that the public has access to all DC Government-sponsored events, activities, and programs that are open to the public that identify as Deaf, DeafBlind, Deaf Disabled, Hard-of-Hearing, or Late Deafened. Our Effective Communication Program will coordinate access needs for events submitted through our Effective Communication Accessibility Request Form to secure service providers. Access is considered open to the public, not just on a requested basis, and your events should be accessible in kind.
For best practices, we ask that requests be submitted at least seven (7) business days before the event to allow ample time to secure providers. Please submit the request at the beginning stage of your planning.
