#ADA30 People - Alison Whyte, Executive Director, DC Developmental Disabilities Council

Head shot of Alison Whyte, Executive Director, DC Developmental Disabilities Council

“To me, the ADA means progress toward social justice for the disability community. It was a necessary step in the disability rights movement and yet and it was just the beginning. Disability rights are human rights and we are seeing more and more opportunities to connect with broader social justice movements in ways that acknowledge the diverse identities and unique challenges that exist within the disability community. I am here for that and I look forward to supporting more leaders of color, LGBTQ leaders, immigrant leaders, leaders with intellectual disabilities, and all the beautiful combinations of people that make up the disability community.”
