Disability Mentoring Days 2018

Thursday, September 20, 2018

October is Disability Employment Awareness Month, and this year’s theme is America’s Workforce: Empowering All. ODR and the Developmental Disabilities Council (DDC) cordially invite job seekers, college, and high school students with disabilities to participate in the 2018 Disability Mentoring Days (DMD) program with the District of Columbia Government.

ODR and the DDC are proud to coordinate this nationally recognized event which takes place during the month of October to commemorate National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) is the national sponsor of the event and we partner with AAPD to coordinate the DMD activities in the District of Columbia. AAPD is a national, cross-disability membership organization promoting political and economic empowerment for all people with disabilities. For more information about AAPD, please visit their web site at http://www.aapd.com/

The Disability Mentoring Days are open to job seekers, high school, college, and graduate students with disabilities and this year’s program will take place between October 15 and October 31, 2018. Disability Mentoring Days enable job-seekers and students with disabilities to visit a Federal/District Government agency or DC metropolitan business that matches their interests for one-on-one time with volunteer mentors. It provides an opportunity to underscore the connection between school and work, evaluate personal goals, learn about career opportunities in the District and develop mentoring relationships with government and business leaders. History of the program illustrates that students’ participation in Disability Mentoring Day can result in an internship opportunity with the host employer or function as a first interview on the way to an employment opportunity.
