“The Americans with Disabilities Act was a watershed moment in the journey to ensure that every person living in the United States has legal protection from inaccessibility and other forms of discrimination in the public square. As someone who has struggled with depression and PTSD, I am incredibly grateful for the those who fought hard for the ADA’s passage and continue to demand full equality for persons with disabilities. One-in-five Americans has an anxiety disorder, and one-in-ten experiences depression; they would lack the resources and support to have a stake in the public square were it not for the ADA. We have a long way to go in this country for disabled communities, but the ADA has long set us on the right path to equality for all.”
