Mayor's Annual Disability Awareness Expo--October 25, 2016

Tuesday, October 4, 2016

The Office of Disability Rights (ODR) in partnership with several District Government agencies will host the 9th Annual Mayor's Disability Awareness Expo at the Department of Employment Services 4058 Minnesota Ave, NE, in recognition of October being National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The purpose of this free event is to advance the conversation on equal opportunities and inclusive environments for people with disabilities, complete with information tables and over 40 exhibitors. The District of Columbia is home to over 116,000 people with disabilities and this year more than 400 consumers, caregivers, advocates and students are invited to attend.

Through a partnership with Department of Employment Services (DOES), Office of the Superintendent of Special Education (OSSE), Department on Aging (DCOA), Department on Disability Services (DDS), Department of Healthcare Finance (DCHF), and the Department of Behavioral Health (DBH), this Disability Awareness Expo will highlight the important initiatives and programs offered throughout the District.  This years’ theme is #InclusionWorks, and we plan to focus on youth transitioning into the workforce and jobs for persons with disabilities. We have identified 40 spaces for exhibitors and partners to share their information and possibly sign persons up for various programs.

This all-day event will happen on Tuesday, October 25th from 10:00 AM through 3:00 PM.  Doors will open at 9:30 AM with the 1-hour program beginning at 10:00 AM.
